Bill and Lorrie, a couple from Annapolis, Maryland, have always shared a passion for life on the water. Nestled near the picturesque Chesapeake Bay, they spent their weekends fishing, rafting up with friends, and cruising on their first boat, a Stamas 320 Express center console. Their love for being on the water only deepened as they explored the area’s vibrant boating community.
In 2007, with the arrival of their daughter, Katherine—lovingly nicknamed “Katty”—the couple decided it was time to slow down. They wanted to spend more family time cruising the Chesapeake, embarking on new adventures each spring and fall. At the 2009 U.S. Sailboat Show, the couple met a broker from Annapolis Yacht Sales and began seriously considering a Gemini catamaran.
After evaluating various options, they purchased a Gemini Legacy for its shallow draft, spacious liveaboard amenities, and family-friendly stability—perfect for cruising with young kids. Bill relished the coastal voyages, with Lorrie and Katherine joining for parts of the Intracoastal Waterway journey.
By 2013, the family moved to Edgewater, just south of Annapolis, and kept their Gemini Legacy at Pier 7 Resort Marina. Though the marina wasn’t top-notch at the time, its location made it incredibly convenient—a quick 10-minute drive from home.
As time passed, Bill and Lorrie began to dream of something bigger—something with more space, better livability, and shallower draft for long-term cruising. By 2020, Pier 7 Resort Marina had transformed. Acquired and renovated by The Catamaran Company in 2014, it had become a hub for cruising catamarans, hosting a variety of models such as Gemini, Lagoon, Fountain Pajot, and Catana. The couple found themselves drawn to the community of catamaran owners. Lorrie appreciated the stability of catamarans, especially for keeping Katherine and her friends safe, while Bill enjoyed the speed and spaciousness—particularly the flybridge models, with what he dubbed a “Master and Commander” view.
Every fall, Bill and Lorrie eagerly attended the U.S. Sailboat Show, inspecting catamarans and narrowing their list of potential future purchases. They were especially captivated by the Eco 80 Sunreef series featured on YouTube by The Catamaran Company’s CEO, Staley Weidman. Their enthusiasm was further fueled when they ran into Brent Herman, a Catamaran Company broker, while dining at the Pier 7 restaurant. During their conversation, they discovered that Annapolis Yacht Sales had become part of The Catamaran Company family—a nostalgic moment that brought their journey full circle.
With dreams of catamaran ownership becoming more tangible, Bill and Lorrie turned to The Catamaran Company for guidance. Beyond their extensive yacht offerings and customer service, the company’s partnership with Details Details Services, LLC (DD) made the entire process smoother and more secure. With nearly 30 years of expertise and over 5,000 yacht transactions under its belt, DD’s services gave Bill and Lorrie peace of mind throughout their journey.
This spring, with the support of The Catamaran Company and DD’s assistance, Bill and Lorrie successfully sold their Gemini Legacy through Annapolis Yacht Sales. “The marina is perfect for selling a boat. With gated access, we knew exactly who was coming to see it,” Bill noted. The process was seamless; even minor survey issues were swiftly managed by Annapolis Yacht Services, the on-site service division, ensuring the deal closed without delays.
Once they secured their dream boat, a Bali 4.6 Catamaran, Bill and Lorrie relied on DD’s marine documentation services, which covered everything from lien searches to the transfer of ownership and vessel registration. Whether dealing with U.S. Customs importation or renewing their documentation, DD’s team ensured every step was handled with the utmost professionalism and attention to detail.
Soon, Bill and Lorrie will embark on their first voyage aboard their new Bali 4.6, heading to Fort Lauderdale and visiting The Catamaran Company’s headquarters, where they will be welcomed by Multitech, the company’s service division. From there, they plan to set sail for the Hodges Creek charter base in the British Virgin Islands, where their catamaran will become part of a charter fleet, allowing them to offset ownership costs.
Excited for their upcoming family vacations in the BVI and looking forward to more time on the water back home, Bill and Lorrie are also considering adding a new center console to their dock in Annapolis. “We don’t want to miss any time on the water,” Bill shares. The couple’s journey epitomizes the fulfillment that comes from pursuing one’s dreams with the right partners to navigate the way.
